The molybdenum gives 316 better overall corrosion resistant properties than Grade 304, particularly higher resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in chloride environments.
Grade 316L is the low carbon version of 316.
The austenitic structure also gives these grades excellent toughness, even down to cryogenic temperatures.
Compared to chromium-nickel austenitic stainless steels, 316L stainless steel offers higher creep, stress to rupture and tensile strength at elevated temperatures.
SS3166L is and excellent grade in a range of atmospheric environments and many corrosive media - generally more resistant than 304.
316 is usually regarded as the standard marine grade stainless steel, but the SS316L is equally suitable.
Good oxidation resistance in intermittent service to 870°C and in continuous service to 925°C. Continuous use of 316 in the 425-860°C range is not recommended if subsequent aqueous corrosion resistance is important. Grade 316L is more resistant to carbide precipitation and can be used in the above temperature range.

American Wire Gauge (AWG) is a U.S. standard set of non-ferrous wire conductor sizes. The "gauge" means the diameter. It is most frequently applied to copper household electrical wiring and telephone wiring.
Millimetre (mm) is a unit of length equal to one thousandth of a meter and equivalent to 0.03937 inch.
In other words mm is a far more precise measurement. All sizes that are between AWG measurements will be rounded to their nearest AWG equivalent. For example 0.3mm is between 29 AWG and 28 AWG. We have rounded it to the nearest AWG measurement. We have put +- to indicate this.
